Sorry but cant give much information, he bought a pc about 4 years ago used and it worked fine till about a year ago when it just refused to post, I sold him a 4870 I had lying around for £25, he took it back and said it didnt work, so I gave him a spare 4870 that I knew for a fact worked no problem, still didnt work.
At this point I assumed either his motherboard was dead or his psu, he was going to bring it to me to look at but ended up taking it to a local pc shop who tested it and said the pc was fine just needed a cheap new graphics card costing £50(a budget one but a new model) as all 3 of the cards my friend owned were dead(which seems suspicious to me)
So I am thinking either the guy lied to sell a new graphics card(but then why did he not charge any labour costs) or he just jumped to conclusions and said the power supply was ok and it was just bad graphics cards.
I assume also that the psu may just of been too weak to handle a 4870 as my friend said it had a generic name and it either burned out the card or the card still works but cant tell unless I get the cards to test
