Bit of a noobie question, but how does the Modmytoys Fan controller work?

I do have 8 fans which are all pwm types but want it controlled via windows.
Am i right in thinking that the molex powers the board/fans, with each fan inserted in the supplied ports, but at least one fan port having a Y splitter for connecting one end to the mobo and one to the fan?
