How to correctly punch down telephone wires

So I moved the main BT master socket and cut the phone line shorter (naughty illegal) and I connected everything up the phone works the broadband works but the 2 wires (orange and white) are not punched all the way into the little socket thing should it be all the way down? Or is it fine as it is? Here's what the socket looks like and where it's marked A and B is where the wires go:
